The truth is there are so many couples that ask about an engagement session. Because I am a wedding photographer, I sometimes assume everyone knows what they really are and what you can use it for. I am here to talk about 7 things that make an engagement session with Katia Forero Photography a must.
1. Engagement sessions are the best way to engage
This is the best time to get to know your photographer and vice-versa. Remember, I will be part of one of the most special days of your life. To be able to know in advance the way you are with each other, what’s important to you and what kind of images really interest you, an engagement session can work as a way to discover these.
Note: All Katia Forero Photography Wedding Collections come with a Complimentary engagement session. If you are not ready to book me for your wedding you can schedule an engagement session, pay the fee and if you decide to go with my services, then I will credit that fee to your total wedding collection – YEAH!!!!It’s a win-win situation.
There are many beautiful places in the City of Austin and they can make for beautiful backdrops for your session but keep the following in mind:
- Am I interested in closeups of the two of us, intimate and candid moments but still having a city vibe? If your answer is YES, then the options are limitless. We can think outside the box for this type of engagement session. Think about cool murals around the city, colorful walls, wall art, lines, cozy places, parks with rock formations and moss but the most important thing, a place where we have good light and where you would feel comfortable. Not too crowded.
- Am I interested in a more outdoorsy, woodsy kind of a place? If your answer is YES then we should look into some of the beautiful parks, botanical gardens or even farms around the city.
3. Time is money
When I say this I am not talking about monetary value but getting the MONEY SHOTS! There is something that we photographers call “the golden hour” which refers to that soft, warm light that we see at the end of the day. It’s one of two times during the day that we can hope for the best light. It happens for about 30 mins only so we schedule your session 90 mins prior to sunset time. This way, when it’s time for that beautiful light to grace us you guys are more relaxed and ready to make magic happen. Sometimes we get an overcast day, like on the picture below, so we end up with more moody images but beautiful all the same.
4. To wear or not to wear – that is the question
You have no idea how many times I get asked this question and it is perfectly fine to ask because I have a few suggestions. First, you want to wear something that makes you feel good. Just remember, you don’t get to have an engagement session all the time, so make it memorable. It’s perfectly fine to overdo it! In this case, it’s o.k but also if dressing up its not really you then try to compliment each other’s outfits. Don’t dress for a winter session in summer clothes and vice-versa. I want you to be comfortable so don’t forget to check the weather when planning what to wear. No matchy-matchy…I think it looks way better in camera when you are both showing your personalities through your clothing choices. Be silly if you are silly, be fancy if you like being fancy, be sportsy if that is how you roll. Just be you times two….hahaha!
5. All about each other
Location, what to wear, lighting it’s all secondary to the both of you. Be ready to be present and enjoy each other. Let’s treat this as a DATE. Your engagement session can show me so much about your personalities and what you see in each other. If you come prepared to be all about each other I promise you, you will LOVE your engagement photos. Don’t be afraid to hug, kiss or to simply make each other laugh.
6. We don’t know how to pose
You have no idea how many times I’ve heard this phrase and I have to say “YOU ARE NOT ALONE”. Many couples believe they have to come to their engagement session knowing what to do….Don’t you worry. I will walk you through this thing call posing BUT it is in between that posing when we will get pictures of your true personalities. Together, these will make up a great set of engagement pictures.
7. Pinterest: YAY OR NAY?
Pinterest is a great way to put your ideas into actual visuals and I will be the first one to ask about your Pinterest board BUT I want you to keep in mind that everyone’s experience is different. Pinterest gives me an idea of what you would like to see from your engagement session BUT what it will not tell me is how you are with each other. Let’s say you want to include your dogs in your engagement session and you show me a picture of them with a SAVE THE DATE sign; it’s a great way for me to get an idea of what you are looking for but it most likely will not be represented the same way. The reason for this is because the location is different, the lighting is different and maybe my editing style is different. As long as you know this I can always try to get that image for you.
I hope these help you plan for your engagement session. I am looking forward to working with you and to capture these special moments. To see more visit KATIA FORERO PHOTOGRAPHY on Facebook. For more on engagement sessions with Katia Forero Photography CLICK HERE
