No! right? you don’t want to be. So I put together a few tips that can help you plan your wedding day and give you enough time to enjoy your reception without being in a rush. I put these together from past experiences and I am sure other photographers can add to this list but these are just a few to keep in mind, maybe they will help us keep a very organized and on-scheduled day! If you are one of my brides we probably have talked about this but just in case here they are again accompanied by cute pictures of past weddings.
Tip #1: HAVE A WEDDING ITINERARY (on paper/email) and share it with everyone. With your bridesmaids, groomsmen, family, vendors and most importantly your wedding photographer. Having a break down of the day hour by hour can really help everyone be on time. Talk to your photographer as you plan your wedding itinerary, she/he will be able to give you some suggestions and tell you how long things will take and how much time you need to give yourself for formals, portraits around the city, and bridal portraits.
Tip #2: MORE IS MORE: When it comes to time MORE is MORE. Give yourself and your groom some extra time. If you end up with a few extra minutes in between events I am sure they can be used to relax, have a little snack or a drink (wink wink)! Add an extra 30 minutes at the beginning of the day to make sure everyone has enough time to get ready and enjoy while being on time. Trust me, being 30 minutes behind schedule on your wedding day can make things a little stressful.
Tip #3: TALK TO YOUR WEDDING PARTY. We all want to have fun on a wedding day, especially our friends but assure them there will be plenty of time later to sit back and enjoy. Things run so smoothly when everybody pays attention to the photographer’s instructions. It is not as easy to direct 14 people at the same time. We want to take a little extra time with the two of you since this is YOUR special day.
Tip #4: FEWER LOCATIONS: In this case LESS is MORE does apply. There are so many beautiful and iconic places in the city but remember that sometimes it is better to narrow down the locations because it allows us more time to capture you “stress free”. An experienced photographer would be able to find good lighting without having to go to many locations. Just think about the time that it takes to walk from the car/limo to the location, set up the shots, walk back and drive to the next location. All that time can be used to create beautiful portraits with available light in just one place. If you feel you would like different locations for your portraits maybe you should set it up that way for your engagement session and leave a more simple approach for your wedding day.
Tip #5: HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER: If you are able to hire a wedding planner I know you will not regret it. This person is there to do the things you do not want to do on your wedding day and more. This person is a professional at planning and making your wedding day run smoothly. She/He will be able to coordinate all your vendors, keep everybody on time and work her/his magic in making your reception place look amazing while you, your groom and your family parties all night long!
Tip#6: This tip might not save you time but it will help everyone feel more at ease, including you. LET GO AND ENJOY! Is hard to do it, after all you have being planning this wedding for a while now and nobody knows every single detail better than you do (unless you do tip#5) but if you forget about all the little details and let the day take it’s course, your day will go so much better. Remember, a stressed out bride is not good and your mood on your wedding day can dictate how everyone feels around you, so just let go and be yourself~
Happy planning BRIDES!
