Last October, in lieu of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I asked you to nominate one special person for a portrait session with me. This is Amanda and she is a breast cancer survivor.

I had the opportunity to photograph this courageous beautiful woman. Her journey to health has not been easy, but regardless of very difficult times, she has helped others going through similar experiences.

J O Y

I am over here doing a little happy dance for what I will be doing in two weeks.

I will share more soon because I don’t want to jinx myself 😂 - I am a bit superstitious like that.

Anyone have plans for the weekend? My husband said to me this morning “Wanna tackle the Master bedroom 😳” and to be honest, I am scared of “tackling” anything while my back is still hurting from a workout injury a few months ago 😩 but this project needed to happen like 6 years ago.

I will “tackle” because if not today, then when?

I N T R O D U C T I O N S

Hey guys! Here is my first Friday introduction of 2022 for those that are new here.

My name is Katia and I am a portrait and wedding photographer in Austin, TX.

I am bilingual (Spanish-English) & Spanglish depending on who am talking to.

I love boxers and volunteer for Austin Boxer Rescue along some amazing, hardworking, committed volunteers.

I shoot Canon but I started my photography journey with a 35mm Pentax that belonged to my boyfriend, now my husband- Thank you honey!

I photographed some of my close friends with B&W film and fell in love with the whole experience which catapulted me into business - Thank you Mariel, Ana Belen, Cathy and Jamie for being my muses from the start.

I've never colored my hair - yeap! No highlights, not a different color, not even black to start covering my "white hairs" which are coming ahhhh!!

I had braces for many years in my teens and because of that, I SMILE whenever I can which usually accompanies a loud laugh.

20 years! I still can’t believe it. It’s been that long since the Harry Potter movie phenomenon started and almost 25 years since the first book came out.

It is exciting to see that a series of books and movies can be a bridge between generations.

Who is a Harry Potter fan and why do you like it?

C O N F I D E N C E I get it - it is easier said

C O N F I D E N C E

I get it - it is easier said than done. How many times I’ve said to myself “Dang! I look good” - not as many as I would like but I try.

Sometimes is the little things that boost that confidence, like wearing my favorite red lipstick or wearing my favorite dress or helping someone else find their own confidence.

I’ve said it and I will say it again, sometimes you need to see yourself through someone else’s eyes because of how critical we are of ourselves.

What I am trying to say is confidence can carry you through many wonderful adventures and experiences. It can help you walk into a room and establish new relationships, it can make you feel good and on top of the world, it can translate to all the other things you do in your life in a positive way.

And btw - confidence photographs well 😜🔥

M O T I V A T I O N I read somewhere today that y

M O T I V A T I O N

I read somewhere today that you really don't start a project or an activity based on motivation, instead you start to do that project/activity and THEN you get motivated by it.

I looked up the word "motivation" and after a few clicks and extensive research ha! this is what I found:

"mo·ti·va·tion - noun: the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way"

So, the phrase "I am motivated" should come after the fact. Because of this, I decided to take action and started putting together a few pages of what I am hoping can be my first teaching experience.

I would love to teach a workshop in 2022 because imparting knowledge is also another thing I am passionate about. Over 13 years of wedding and portrait photography experience and more often than not, I am not aware of the knowledge those years come with and the value it could have for someone starting photography or even an entrepreneur looking to learn about lighting and photography.

So here it is - Action = Reason =Motivation - Let's do this!

S T R U G G L E S You have no idea how I struggl

S T R U G G L E S

You have no idea how I struggle to find the right words when I post an image. I often go back and forth about what to write, how I say it, how people will perceive it and all my grammatical errors because, if you didn’t know this by now, English is not my first language.

At this point, neither is Spanish. I’ve lived in the U.S now for 20 years guys!! 20 YEARS - that’s half my life, and I still find it hard to express myself with words.

For 13 years now, I’ve been photographing weddings, engagements and portraits, but if there is something that I’ve learned about myself this past year is that I absolutely love photographing women.

I’ve been doing this little by little because I still love photographing the love between a couple, but my main goal in 2022 is to photograph more women LOVING themselves.

Let’s face it, we are so hard on ourselves we often forget to look in the mirror with kind eyes. I want to be those kind eyes for you, because I see you in your journey.

Whether that journey is through a boudoir session, or a Chez Garage session or a branding session, I am dying to be part of it because it gives me purpose.

Now get ready for so many beautiful sessions. DM if you are ready to see yourself through my eyes.
