When it comes to capturing portraits, there are a few things I always recommend. Whether they are women or men’s portraits. One of the most important things, if not the most important, is to wear something that makes you feel confident. Being comfortable while feeling confident is a powerful combination for portraits. Here are some of the things you can keep in mind while picking your outfit.
- Dress for the weather
2. Avoid busy patterns.
Patterns You Should NOT Wear
Dark against light: Small geometrical patterns that contain a dark color against a light color can be very distracting.
Small, close together stripes: Small stripes do not photograph well. They produce a weird distortion effect called moiré. Stripes are especially bad when combined with the above problem pattern (dark against light).
Plaid: Plaid is o.k in certain instances. If you are going to do plaid, make sure the pattern is not crazy. For example: Blue and red or red and green. If you look at it and it hurts your eyes, don’t wear it.
3. Colors that photograph well: Blues, Grays, Army Green, Burgundy, Black, Mustard, Camel, Browns, Jeans, Dark Jeans.
4. If the weather allows it, blazers can add a touch of sophistication to your classic white/black Tee and jeans.
5. Accessorize if you are the kind of guy to wear necklaces, men link bracelets, leather, silver or otherwise. If you wear hats, bring them! If you wear scarves, use them. Is not everyday that you get your picture professionally taken.
6. If you have a beard – trim it, brush it and style it. If you don’t have a beard, shave the night before and moisturize. If you are one of those men that get a 5 o’clock shadow, then shave morning of the session.
When in doubt, you can always send me a message katia@katiaforero.com with your selections (images) and I will be happy to help. Looking forward to our session.
